Ask students to write a poem about their life, holidays, favourite things etc

Let your class ask 'yes or no' questions about you. eg. Do you like to run? Next, ask the students for a show of hands to answer similar 'yes or no' questions. For example, Who likes to play soccer? Who likes to draw? etc. Play a memory game to see who likes similar activities.

Hand out the time capsule sheets to each student. Create a box called 'The Time Capsule'. Ask each student to fill out the sheets and place them into the Time Capsule after they are finished. Students can open these at the end of the year and see if their favourite things have changed over time. The time capsule

Hand out paper squares for students to design and decorate their own personal name card. They can keep this on their desk. A great way for students and teachers to know where they are sitting.

Hand out a small notebook to each student with their name on it. Ask them to fill out one page every week (this does not have to be school related). Also, give students the opportunity to read out their journal entry if they wish.

Ask each student to write down their name and 5 things about themselves. Collect these and then read them out one at a time. Ask students to 'Guess Who?' after reading each one and see if they can guess correctly. If they guess incorrectly ask the student to raise their hand to reveal their identity.

Ask students to write a letter to their future selves. Collect them to hand back at the end of the year. Try to include goals, what they want to achieve, favourite things, their age etc. You can combine this with the 'Time Capsule' activity.

Hand out some large pieces of paper and ask students to create a poster about themselves.
